Cartwheel is one of the leading participatory arts groups in the North West. Based in Heywood, we work throughout Rochdale borough and across the region. We use a wide range of artforms to create memorable, enjoyable, high quality projects. These involve people of all ages - and from diverse backgrounds - in making exciting, innovative work, helping to build stronger, safer, healthier communities.
Cartwheel has over 20 years experience of promoting social inclusion, cohesion, diversity and regeneration through community participation in imaginative, and often challenging arts projects - we do not shy from confronting difficult or sensitive issues.
Our focus is on participation, enabling people who may have had little experience of the arts to explore and develop their creativity and talents, generating a sense of ownership and pride. We receive annual funding from Arts Council England, North West and from Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council, and for three years we have funding from Big Lottery Fund for Tell Us Another One. In addition we raise funds for projects from a wide variety of sources, such as charitable trusts and government bodies.
Cartwheel is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
