This is a new women's group which was formed post-lockdown in Deeplish, Rochdale.
We run a weekly Art for Welllbeing session with focus on working with textiles.
The group members are all of South Asian heritage and most worked with textiles as a pastime before moving to Rochdale to take up employment and many spoke about the stark realities of working with textiles in the UK, most working long hours from home and isolated from their communities.
The activities we deliver with this group are intended to explore new processes, reframing textiles as a tool for a social and therapeutic craft.
