“There are lots, and lots, of positive responses. Thank you again for thinking of us. I’ve just delivered to a family that have very little. The children’s smiling faces made my day.”
David Fenton, Headteacher, Hollin Primary School
The national explosion of digital content left out many households across the borough with limited access to the internet, highlighting the inequalities of the digital divide. And for low income families, materials for creative activities were in short supply. We worked with partners to provide families with great ideas and the stuff to do them with. Our GMCA funding was matched initially by Link4Life, Rochdale Council and Rochdale Boroughwide Housing enabling us to assemble a shoe box of tricks with additional activities provided by M6 Theatre, Touchstones, Skylight Circus Arts
RBC Equalities Team helped us to identify the most vulnerable families and children in the borough, for example Refugee and Asylum Seeker families, Gypsy Roma Traveller families and Cared for Children.
We then focused on schools with the most children on Free School Meals and/or with the most with English as an Additional Language (EAL). GCI! boxes were delivered by Sky TV engineers volunteering in support of the community response #SkyCares
Working with agencies and partners such as RBH, Rochdale Youth Service, RBC Supporting Families and over 20 voluntary organisations we reached communities and children identified as being most in need
Thanks to @BamfordPrintLtd for helping to track down scarce resources, and packing all the boxes.
