Freelance Practitioner Call Out

Darnhill Festival 2024

Darnhill Festival is due to take place on Saturday 6th July 2024.  This Creative Festival is produced in partnership with the Darnhill Festival Association & residents. Ahead of the festival day we offer a range of visual arts workshops to local schools, youth organisations and community groups.

We are currently seeking new artists and practitioners to join Cartwheel Arts and work on this years’ Darnhill Festival programme!

Sessions will take place either during school hours, weekday evenings or some Saturdays during May & June 2024.  

All applicants must be available to work in person in Heywood on Saturday 6th July. 

We are particularly interested to hear from individuals who:

  • Live, or are based in either Darnhill, Heywood or Rochdale Borough

  • Are typically under-represented in the arts, including those who have lived experience of poverty, racial inequalities, disability, neurodiversity or who identify as LGBTQ+

And have any of the following skills / experience: 

  • Willow weaving

  • Community garden projects

  • Youth work & Facilitation

  • Carnival Arts Making Workshops

Please note, this is a freelance opportunity, and we expect successful candidates to be registered as self-employed, be responsible for their own Tax & National Insurance, have public liability insurance of up to £5 million and a DBS certificate issued within the last 2 years (or be registered on the Update Service). 

Rates of Pay:

All pre-festival workshops will be paid at Cartwheel’s standard freelancer rates of pay which are:

£125 / half day

£225 / full day

For half day workshops delivered on Saturday 6th July, we offer a slightly increased rate of pay, to account for the busy nature of the festival:

£150 / half day (Saturday 6th July only)
